Lavender by the Bay, June 28, 2020
This was my third time visiting Lavender by the Bay, a lavender farm on the east end of Long Island, New York. Under normal circumstances, the farm would be open for walk-ins, traffic would be stop-and-go for miles on the only west-east road on the North Fork and the fields would be packed with people. But because of the pandemic, the farm had limited tickets available - although, towards the beginning of the bloom, they had announced they wouldn’t open at all this year. When I received an e-mail from them stating they would be opening for select time spots, I immediately went to their website and purchased a ticket.
When Rani and I arrived, we put our face masks on and entered the fields. It was perfect! There were not many people and we had a lot of space to explore and take photos.
Then it began to rain.
Hard.
But that didn’t stop us.
We danced and ran through the lavender, laughing as we went.
We were hot and sweaty and soaked from the rain, but we felt alive and energized.
And the aroma of lavender surrounded us.
